Writing a Press Release

Writing a press release is easy. Just remember, to get your news approved it must be news. Announcing home based business opportunities and non-newsworthy items will not get your content published in OpenPaperWire.

Title
Your title should be an announcement that engages the reader. For example:

“OpenPaperWire Announces Free Image Publishing in Press Releases”

But what if you are on a schedule and you must do a monthly press release but nothing new has happened in your organization? Write a report.

“OpenPaperWire Shows Clear Connection Between Press Releases and SEO”

Always capitalize the first letter of each word in the title.

Summary
Your summary is a brief description of the content to come. Make a two sentence statement that teases the audience without giving away the substance.

Example: “As many press release distribution services are cutting out free products, some still believe in free news publishing. OpenPaperWire is not only keeping their free service, they are also adding new features to it.”

Body
The body of your press release needs to be descriptive. Include quotes from officers of your company and make it sound like a news report. Never write in first person or say “we” or “us” unless contained in a quote. If you are having trouble drafting your press release, try this formula.

Paragraph 1: Restate the topic of the press release in different words from the title and summary.

Paragraph 2: Make the announcement.

Paragraph 3: Include a quote from an officer, customer, or other source.

Paragraph 4: Indicate something new that is coming in the future.

Paragraph 5: Include a “To learn more, call or visit us online” tag with your phone number and website address.

Footer

The footer of your press release needs to include full contact information.
