Driving Violations Can Affect a Driver’s Florida Auto Insurance Rate
Tampa, Fla. – An individual’s driving record affects their auto insurance rates. Every insurance company has its own guidelines on how police tickets and driving violations increase the premium. Parking tickets and other minor infractions are not included in their review. In Florida, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles assesses points depending on the speeding or moving violation. Each insurance company will review these points on a driver’s record.
Here are the points taken for various offenses:
Three points
Speeding less than 15 mph over the limit
Improper lane change
Open alcoholic container
Not using a child restraint
Littering
Driving during restricted times
Parking on a highway improperly
Four points
Speeding more than 15 mph over the limit
Not stopping at a traffic signal
Passing a school bus when stopped
Reckless driving
Moving violation that caused an accident
Six points
Accident caused by speeding
Leaving an accident scene with damage more than $50
Additionally, drivers can receive multiple points against their record in a single incident. When 12 points are given in any year period, a driver’s license is suspended for a month. 18 points in 18 months causes a three month suspension. And 24 points in 36 months suspends a driver’s license for a year.
Overall, these points remain on a driver’s record for 10 years. Individuals should know to be honest and give their complete history when getting a Florida auto insurance quote. Insurance companies will see a copy of the individual’s driving record and will also pull an updated record at the time of renewal.
“Even with a violation, it is still important to carry Florida auto insurance,” said Vincent Payne from AGIC Insurance, Inc. “If a serious accident were to happen, the driver could be liable and risk his assets if there is not enough insurance to cover the damages he did.”
AGIC Insurance, Inc. is known for working with drivers to find the best Florida car insurance at a great value. They will take the time to explain the policy and what is needed to ensure a driver’s safety on the road. To learn more, click on http://www.agicinsurance.com or call 1-877-854-0123.
